NHQ South Queensland

NHQ-SQ was located at Bulimba Barracks, Apollo Road, Bulimba. This Headquarters was established in May 1994 as a result of the closure of the first HMAS Moreton on this site The Royal Australian Navy had always maintained a significant presence in South Queensland through its Navy Headquarters situated at Bulimba on the Brisbane River. Although there were no ships or commissioned establishments in Brisbane then, there was a high level of naval activity in and around South Queensland. Navy Headquarters – South Queensland (NHQ-SQ) was the focal point of naval activity and supported RAN personnel who serve in the area, including the Australian Defence Force Recruiting Unit at Edward Street in the city; the Deployable Joint Force Headquarters at Enoggera; and the School of Army Education, those studying at the undergraduate and postgraduate level at tertiary institutions in Brisbane, at Enoggera. The RAN also had students and instructors at the following establishments: the Defence Force School of Signals - Electronic Warfare Wing, Cabarlah (north of Toowoomba), the Army Aviation Centre Oakey (west of Toowoomba) and at the School of Military Intelligence at Canungra (near the Gold Coast). NHQ-SQ was re-commissioned as HMAS Moreton on 14 May 2016.
